Go 24 Hours Without Technology

So from Friday at 10:30PM till Saturday at 10:30PM I went without computer/internet, cell phone, land line phones, GPS, TV, video games, CD's, cassettes, radio of any kind, etc.

It was pretty easy for the first 20 hours but around 6:30PM on Saturday I started yearning for the internet.
I don't think it would have been a problem though if I had kept super busy and not been at home.
It's really interesting though about how much we are dependent on technology. I have to write an essay about it for my MCS class because it was actually his push to do it for the assignment that made me do it this weekend. I probably would have procrastinated on it otherwise.

It wasn't as hard as I thought it would have been overall though. :-)

Things I Did Not Accomplish:

Go to an amusement park: This was simply from lack of time. It ended up coming down to this or the Broadway show, so I chose the latter. It's definitely going on the list for next year though. :)

Play in the rain: This was due to procrastination. By the time I realized I hadn't done it yet was too late because it didn't rain between then and my birthday. :/ Going on the list for next time.

Read a book: Cover to cover? Nope. I'm lazy. I really need to do this though.

Pass out Tuesday Brochures: I didn't actually get to pass them out to strangers, but I did make them, and I do have them, and I did take them with me to Chicago and gave them to April and Jes. No pictures though. :(

Get a passport: This seems like something I need to do once I decide on a place that I'm actually going to go to. So it's going on the next list, but only because my other goal is to leave the country.

Visit somewhere not in the US: Read above: Goal is to do this before 2012 now. Hopefully somewhere in Europe, I feel like Canada is cheating.

PS- Sorry it took so long to close out this blog. But it's done now! Yay!

Not Break My Phone Or Camera

I actually upgraded both my camera AND my phone from the time that this list was created and my 22nd birthday. But none of the 4 electronic items broke ever! :)

Find A Pair Of Sunglasses That Don't Make My Face Look Ridiculous

Caylee sent these to me for my goal:

I'm pretty sure that it counts because they are SO ridiculous that I LOOK GOOD. :)

Go Run Through A Sprinkler

Ran through a sprinkler at night with Katie at her boyfriend's birthday party. In my clothes.

See A Broadway Show

Katie and I drove to Wolftrap in Virginia to see Cats! It was super hot out but we managed through the entire show and drank lots of water/cooled ourselves with baggies of ice! :)
The show was really great. I admire people like those actors.

Secret Agent L Mission

Mission: Snail Mail Kit
Date: 06/18/2010
Time: Approximately 11:30 AM

So I wanted to do something for a mission that was related to something that I love so I decided to do something with (snail) mail. I created a small starter package (which technically cost me nothing but the cost of the stamps because I used things from my own stash) for writing snail mail. I included a letter which explained this and the contents included postcards, a pen, envelopes, a note card, some stationery, and some seals.

The way that this was kept anonymous is that I went to my PO Box, and selected the neighbor to my right,

wrote their address on an envelope (without a return address)

and plopped it in the mail box outside the post office.

It felt really good to know that someone is going to open their PO Box and find something from a stranger. RAOK YOU MAKE MY DAY!

Cook Dinner

I (mostly) cooked dinner at Katie's house!

Me cooking:

The sandwiches!

The mushrooms and onions:

The french fries:

A fairly simple meal, but it's a start. I need to start learning how to cook!

Make Tuesday Shirts!

Tuesday is the project/way of thinking that April Noga created (my pen-pal). I have wanted to make shirts to commemorate this idea/project for a long time and today I finally did! Check em out!

Overtip A Waiter or Waitress for Exceptional Service

While we were at Chuck E Cheese, the waiters were really nice. I called the guy by his name that was printed on the receipt (Kevin) over to our table and told him if he got me a drink I'd tip him. So he got me a Mr. Pibb, no ice and I gave him $15!! :-)

I think I made his day.

Use The Rest Of My Chuck E Cheese Tokens

I went with Katie, Andrew, and Andrew's little brother Matthew to Chuck E Cheese last night. Not only did I use the 13 remaining coupons from 2 years ago, but I received 25 more and used all those too! I got some awesome picture cards and here is a picture of my playing the famous bumble bee game!

Honk If You're Happy

Katie and I held up "HONK IF YOU'RE HAPPY!" and "IF YOU'RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT HONK YOUR HORN" signs on her busy street corner yesterday. It's becoming crunch time with my birthday being on Monday and I want to get as much crossed off this list as possible.

Anyway, there were 100 cars that we counted in the short time we were out there going by. And only 35 of them honked! One guy had his window rolled down, looked at my sign, and said "I'm not..." and drove away. Funny but so sad!

So fun.

Meet Jes

I went up to visit Jes and April for Flag Day weekend in Chicago, IL. It was a wonderful and inspiring weekend and probably the last thing I will accomplish before I turn 22 as my birthday is in 6 days.

Here are some pictures:
This is me and Jes at Crust the restaurant.
This is me and the gang in the bathroom at Crust restaurant.

This is us at the beach.

This is the view from the Sears tower.

This is April and I hanging a banner.

Dancing with April outside the Super Dog.

Jes playing the trumpet, Cassie holding the music, April...appreciating the music.

I Met Toni!

Last Wednesday I realized I wasn't going to be able to see Matt for most of the weekend so I decided to drive the four hours down to Lynchburg to visit my pen-pal, Toni.

It was a long drive.

This is our first picture together.

Appomattox is an extremely small town. I don't really think I could live there. I need a happy medium between small town life and NYC busy bee life. :)

Got some interesting stuff when we went shopping though and it was really awesome to craft with someone else.

I hated the drive, but it was worth it.

Be On Stage Again Somehow

Grasping a little bit, but I danced on stage at Luckies in Baltimore last weekend and caught in on camera. I don't think I'm going to be able to participate in a performance on stage before my 22nd birthday so I'm counting this. :)

Twas fun.

New Friend At UMBC

I reconnected with an old friend this semester at UMBC. I know it's only been two weeks worth of the semester but I have talked to her a lot and it's been good. I feel good things to come.

Her name is Stephanie and she transferred out of my school around 2004 and we have remained "facebook friends" but never talk. I'm so excited to have her in one of my classes. I am going to count this as making a new friend at UMBC until(if) I make a brand new one.

Increase Money In Savings Account

Update: 2/7/10: This is a work in progress, but I am trying to make this entire list come true and I only have a little over 4 months to do so.

I have $1,600 in my bank account as of today. So $400 to go.

Na na na na na na na na BATMAN CHECKS!

I ordered checks from my bank and they finally came in. This is what they look like:

So now I don't have to give my dad cash for my car insurance and other bills, etc. cause I'm a grown up! A grown up with Batman checks that is...

Filled My CD Binder

I've had enough CDs to fill up my book for a while but today I finally stopped putting off filling it up and did it. I actually had to take some CDs out to make room for the good new ones. Here is a picture of my binder.

And on a similar note I would like to add that as of today in my iTunes I have 5,691 songs which is 14.8 days worth of music. And my CD binder holds 320 CDs. I want to condense my Mix CD book so they all fit and there aren't any bad old songs in the mixes. But we'll save that for another day.

Purple Shoes

I didn't buy them for myself because Katie bought them for me as a Christmas present. But they are marvelous and made of sequins:

I Met April Noga

And it was amazing.

April was on vacation in Philadelphia with her sister Kristy and Kristy's friend Lauren. It's only about 2 hours away from me so Friday I drove up there and met them across the street from the Liberty Bell. They welcomed me with open arms and I didn't feel left out once during the entire day.

We went to the Liberty Bell. We went to Independence Hall. We went to a Textile Museum. I took some pictures but not nearly enough of us. She has more on her camera and when she gets home I will post more. We then went to a bar where we ate, drank, danced, talked, and sang. I am in love with April Noga and her life. It felt right. Like why haven't I been with her all along?

I drove home later that night and got home around midnight. I am so excited to be able to check this off my list.

Lovely.

PS- I am now also checking this off as my spontaneous and unnecessary road trip because I need it for my list (point 1) and I didn't realize that I was going officially till the night before (point 2). So it counts. Especially because I did it alone.
